To conserve and restore the population of Indo-Pacific leopard sharks (Stegostoma tigrinum), Thailand’s endangered wildlife, by breeding and releasing them back into the wild in their original habitat. The StAR project team moved nine leopard shark pups, approximately 1 year and 2 months old and measuring approximately 80-110 cm, bred by a team of aquaculture experts from Phuket Aquarium from the Phuket Marine Biology Center to a newly built sea pen on Maiton Island, which will serve as a temporary habitat for the pups to acclimate before they are released back into the wild. In the future, tracking devices will be installed on the pups to enhance protection measures and monitor their survival rate after release.
